Hello, This isn't something I often get to speak about or discuss in this sort of manner, nor is it common to see this sort of conversation in this form, a post about the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual (LGBTQIA) community within an online gaming forum, but I feel it's important to note. You'll notice that Harpoon currently has a rainbow colored logo in our top left, this is to show our support for the LGBTQIA community and join with millions of others in the celebration of the ideas of tolerance, acceptance and happiness. Gamers are often pariahs in a misinformed world. For years, many people have stated that video games cause violence, they've gawked at being on a computer all day, and they've bullied that kid just because he's a 'nerd' or a 'geek'. Many of you have faced this, many of you have confided to me the pressures and emotions that come with harassment for who you are and what you enjoy. What Harpoon became to many of us, was a place to belong, a place to be who you are. And I'm glad you found us, and I'm glad you're here. I know that many of you aren't familiar with what it means to be in the LGBTQIA community. I know that many of you have only heard hatred, fear or disgust towards that idea, while others may be more accepting but not fully understanding it. It's a complex issue and I can't do it justice with the brevity of this message. But what I can tell you is that millions of children, teenagers and young adults like yourself, face that same ignorance that hurts you as a gamer. The ignorance that faces you for your passions, is multiplied to a magnitude one can hardly explain, let alone justify. They're bullied because of who they are, they're outcast for what and who they love. Thousands of young people in the LGBTQIA community have been disowned, bullied, harassed and even killed for just being the person they want to be. At Harpoon, we support the LGBTQIA community for the same reason we support you, because this is a place to belong, a place to be who you are. Thank you all very much for reading, and have a great night. Joe Eoj Charlie Owner of Harpoon Gaming
Lemme say this right now, I am very pleased of this. It made my day. I may not be gay, but there are many of the following people who are friends of mine, it it just disgusts me to see the people who think that it's not normal to be that type of person. I belive that we all deserve a righteous spot in society, no matter what type of person we are. Whether it's gay, transgender, or lesbian, I believe that once again, we all serve an equal spot in society. Seeing that a lot of people care, such as @Eoj Charlie really makes me happy, because it lets me know that I am not the only one out there who support people like that. Once again, thank you very much for helping more people recognize this. Really, it made my day.
I'm pleased to be a part of a community that is taking a public stance toward real-time political issues. After the topic gained notoriety in the aftermath of the general publicity generated by Starbucks's CEO Howard Schultz, I feel that this is a conversation worth having. A necessary one. Many individuals today are continually being harassed, assaulted, insulted etc., simply for being who they are. The topic on race being only one of many. This is not something to turn our backs on and ignore, like so many generations before us. This is something needed to be discussed, for the benefit of today, and those of tomorrow. Thank you, Joe, and Harpoon for stating support for this important issue. Alex ~Cobalt
