Lets start off by saying this... For those of you who will claim that it isn't the server lagging... you're wrong. So anyways, ever since I've played on the TTT server I've seen that there is a huge problem with lag. I'd be surprised if a day went by that the server didn't crash. I don't know if this is being looked into but it would help get more dedicated players on the server, as it's annoying that it crashes/lags so much. Not meant to be a negative thread just letting everyone know ~Dizzy
99% of the time when someone complains about our server being laggy, it's either garrys mod or the player's computer/router. I'm well on my way to being a computer programmer and IT specialist so I'd be happy to help with your computer problems/lag but i can promise that it isn't the server's fault because a lot of regulars, new players, and admins say there's no lag. Do you have counter strike source installed? A lot of our models and sprites come directly from Counter Strike and the game lags really badly if you don't have CSS models/textures
I believe when he says "lag", he is speaking of that moment when the MOTD pops up in the middle of the screen, and the server momentarily freezes.
@Dizzy Could you explain what you mean by lag? Like rubber banding, the server losing connection, frame lag?
I'm guessing it's something to do with CS models, garry's mod's screwyness yeah that's totally a word, or client-side router or modem problems
Sorry for the late reply as I had forgotten about this... However, the server itself will stutter from time to time, thats what I'm talking about. Anyone who plays will understand what I mean by this, it takes around 3 - 5 seconds overall to recover, this isn't due to my router as everyone else experiences this.
i can a sure you it not the sever as i am from the UK and since this is a us sever i am sure i would experience this lag the most but i don't receive any lag at all
It's for sure not a server problem. I live across the USA from the server and never experience lag and the majority of staff and plays I've mentioned this to have said they haven't experienced this lag. I'm guessing it's only on certain maps with T traps that cause some lag (ex. rooftops)? Either way, it's for surely not the server because not ALL players are experiencing this lag you've mentioned. If it was the server's fault, everyone except maybe Joe would experience lag and not many people do lag like you've mentioned.
I have to agree with everyone else, I only get lag on certain maps, or when things like the building falling are activated on rooftops.
As I've said the lag doesn't happen for long, but when it does 5 people comment about it. I don't know if people aren't noticing it or what but I know others have.
It may just be an occasional lag spike on the server side. I'm assuming the servers are hosted in a data center, it may just be the other servers hosted in the same rack drawing more computing power, or the bandwidth being taken up by something else in the complex for a short time.
That wouldn't fully explain it either, one random answer that could be a legitimate reason would be that everyone's using the same ISP (internet service provider like midco) and there are some collisions happening there because of an influx of packets all going to the same destination. Sadly all of these answers are far out of our control, we do a lot go keep lag down but this time it's not our fault
Just looking for some form of logical explanation. Also, I don't think it would matter what ISP each server was going through, they're all on the same ethernet wiring which can only handle so much bandwidth at once.
No, I was meaning all of the clients, if all of the clients had the same ISP and were all sending packets to a certain direction, the ISP's router/switch would get overloaded at times. It's highly unlikely that that's what it is but just some random idea about it
