Okay, so I've been playing a lot of Garry's Mod lately. I've been playing Murder, TTT (on Harpoon Gaming), and sandbox. Randomly, while I'm playing, sometimes my Garry's Mod, regardless of the game mode I'm playing in, starts to freeze. After it's stuck for about 10 seconds or so, it unfreezes, but I can no longer hear anything in the game. The people who were talking when my game froze have their name stuck on the top right of the screen like they're still talking, and anybody who does talk just once gets their name stuck there too. I can't hear any gameplay, and my computer sound is on, Garry's Mod sound is on, and no audio settings change. I just can't hear anything, forcing me to quit Garry's Mod and restart my computer, since that is the only way it seems to get fixed. This happens about every hour or so I play. Does anybody know how this can be fixed and if you can help? Thanks!
Go into properties of Garry's Mod on steam (by right clicking garrys mod, it should be at the bottom of the drop down menu), then go to local files. In that tab, there should be a tab that says "verify integrity of game cache". Click on it, then let it validate all your files. If that doesn't work, you may have to re-install g-mod.
That seems to have worked so far. The freeze thing happened, but my audio wasn't lost and I was able to keep playing! I'll see what the future brings.
Just for future reference, use Slate's advice for any game whenever you have a problem of any kind at all. Most problems that steam games have are because a file or two got corrupted or weren't downloaded. Otherwise, if you ever have any problems with any game just add me on steam, my name's MrSrgsnowman and I'm on steam pretty much constantly
This happened to me all the time when I played, just do as Solid Slate said and verify the integrity of the game cache in options. It may still happen though it's usually do to in game script errors.
