What are Rep Threads and why would I need one?:
The reputations threads, often shortened to rep threads, are a vital aspect of Steam trading most commonly used by Money traders, middlemen, and brokers.

Rep threads are meant to be a log of all the trust based trades you've done, and are intended to provide some added legitimacy to your trustworthiness. Your rep thread serves as a space where people can report positive interactions in regard to Money trading, middlemanning, or brokering experiences with you. Rep threads, while not 100% perfect or trustworthy, can help people decide whether an individual can be trusted to follow through on their end of an agreement.

Does Reputation need to have happened on an HG server or website?
No, as long as the transaction fits the description of a trust trade it will be allowed on the HG rep threads.

If someone has a lot of reputation posts, does that mean they're trustworthy?:
Reputation threads are merely meant as a resource. They are not 100% trustworthy, and often times can be abused by scammers, and other malicious users. Be cautious whenever you trade someone, and especially when you review their rep thread.

Here's some important things to review:
    • Is their SteamRep profile clean?
    • Is their Rep.TF profile clean?
    • How long have they been trading?
    • How long have they been money trading?
    • Who typically goes first in trades involving them?
    • How many rep posts do they have?
    • How old are those rep posts?
    • Do the posters of those reps have much reputation themselves?
    • Do I see the same names repeatedly throughout the rep thread?
Also, as a general note, if someone is trying to pressure you into a trade, or rush you, be weary. Most often, scammers try to speed up transactions before the victims can notice missing, or incorrect details.

Please use your best judgment when reviewing a reputation thread, and deciding who to trade with. And please report anyone who seems suspicious using the "Report" function on each post.

What should I do if someone with a Rep thread here scammed me?:
Depending on the severity, we encourage you to file a report here:

You may also, click the Report button on their Reputation thread, and notify staff.

    What is Money Trading?:
When in-game items are exchanged for actual money through PayPal, Bitcoin, Skrill, or other services. There is a danger to this type of trading due to the refund policies of the aforementioned services. Any person who sends a payment can "chargeback" the payment fairly easily which makes trusting the person you trade with very important.

    What is Brokering?:
When a person sells an item as a service for the original owner. This person, called a broker, receives the item from the original owner, then goes about advertising and selling that item for the original owner, often times, taking a percentage of the sale. This exchange bears a high level of risk because the broker can easily steal the original owner's item(s).

    What is Middlemanning?:
When a person, known as a middleman, agrees to hold items as an impartial third party to a trade or a wager. This requires a level of trust because the middleman can easily steal the original owner's item(s).
